Global MissionsLocal MissionsNogales Short Term Brochure

Bruce Lau

We believe that the Missions ministry involves every CFC member living out their faith in Jesus Christ at work, in their local community, and the wider world. As a result, we hope to grow in our understanding of the global dimensions of God's Kingdom.

Our strategy for the ministry is to reach out to Tucson, the Southwest, North America in order to reach the world with the gospel. We will be intentional in the implementation of our plan by focusing on the following areas: (1) Evangelism Through Church Planting, (2) Local Outreach, and (3) Discipling and Equipping. For more information, please contact me, Bruce Lau, at 520-615-8500 or at

Short Term Mission Trip Updates

Catalina Foothills is activly supporting the short term missions of our members. Here you will find the latest updates of our supported short term trips.

A Miracle from God for Binh Chau

We have traveled to Vietnam and Binh Chau many times, but this was by far the most rewarding trip we have taken. To look back 5 years ago when we were told that we couldn’t build a church in Binh Chau, we couldn’t worship our God there, the church would never be recognized, and then, to see what God has accomplished today. We are so humbled to see that our Almighty God has not only established His church in Binh Chau, but it has been recognized by the local government. But, more importantly, we witnessed that His church is full of His children, who have the love of Christ in their hearts, are growing in their walk with the Lord, and are reaching out to others with the Gospel. The church in Binh Chau is truly a miracle from God that demonstrates His love, mercy, and grace for those He has called to be His children. May we always be quick to give our Heavenly Father ALL the praise, honor, and glory... [READ MORE]

Short Term Mission to Peru

Don and Carolyn Spanger in Lima, Peru

At our first stop in Lima, Peru, Mark and Lori Berry introduced us to their church, which is held in a school in Lima's Salamanca district.   We learned that Mark’s goal is to mentor and train local men to lead the church, modeling a biblical  working church for them.  Enrique, Carlos and Ricardo are products of Marks sound bible instruction; he also teaches adult Sunday School, leads men’s prayer groups, and preaches on Sundays.  Mark and Lori do not work alone; there are two other couples on their team; Jim and Sara organize work groups from the states along with leading in music and youth programs in the church.  Amanda and Jeremy direct an outreach of the church,(the) House of Glory safe house program for abused and abandoned pregnant young teen girls.

At our second stop in Peru, we met Larry and Sandy Rockwell in Huaraz, a small mountain city north of Lima.  Larry travels high in the mountains to the indigenous Indian villages surrounding Huaraz, building relationships with the Kichwa Indians.  While earning their trust and friendship, he is able to evangelize through Bible studies, work projects in their villages, and videos in their language.  Sandy home schools her two teenage daughters, along with mothering their four-year-old adopted Kichwan son Jonathan, who was found abandoned in a field when just one or two days old.

In both cities we found dedicated, hard working missionaries working in varied and challenging circumstances.

Cambodia with Cynthia

My heart, soul and spirit is so full of gratitude to CFC and you Bruce for your loving support for my trip back to Cambodia. I knew it would be quite different from my first journey, because we would be working out of the new Joyce Meyer Hospital in Pursat Province instead of setting up our medical clinics each day in a different location. The new clinic/hospital is beautiful. Yim was my translator for the week. We decided to set up our post right outside the front door of the clinic. I particularly wanted to see all the beautiful faces as they waited for triage to either pediatric, OB/GYN, adult, dental, or chiropractic.

The first day, as the gate was opened, we were met with a deluge of people rushing towards us. This was quickly assessed as a potential hazard. Thereafter, the gate was only opened to allow increments of 300 into the compound for treatment. These precious ones would come from as far as 250 kilometers to be seen. It was exciting to be the bridge to heathcare and offer immediate assistance and to identify those who would require continuous follow-up.

Many of the healthcare issues addressed were related to parasites. This can be traced back to the unclean living conditions and contaminated water consumed. Education as simple as boiling water and providing medication to eliminate the parasites was provided. This alone caused overwhelming gratitude for what I take for granted living in the USA.

It is hard to capture in words the weeks outreach. But want to share just a few of the highlights:

Story #1: The first day several monks arrived from a neighboring temple. (See picture #1) Yim was translating and one of them wanted to practice his English. After my initial assessment, I asked him if he had any questions for me. He wanted to know whyI had come to Cambodia. I told him that it was because I loved the Cambodian people and wanted them to know about the Love of Jesus. I asked him if he had ever heard the name of Jesus and he said "no". I asked him if he had ever heard of the name of God and he said "yes". I told him that I hoped that he would also know about the Love of God before he left that day. He and another monk did find and acknowledge that love. This was confirmed by an assistant in the pharmacy who felt that the Lord had asked him to shave his head. It is very unusual, except for the monks, for a young person to shave their heads. He was obedient and shaved his head. When the monks came up to the pharmacy window to pick up their medication they asked him if he was a monk and he told them no. He told them why he had shaved his head and the monks told him they believed in his God because they could trust someone whose head was shaved. God is amazing in how He works!

Story #2. An infant was broght by his Mother because he was unable to breast feed. Clearly this was an urgent situation. The baby's palate did not allow him to suckle. Amazing work by our chiropractor corrected this malformation and immediately the baby started breast feeding.

Story #3. A Mom brought her baby who had fallen into the fire while she was cooking. She had taken him to a hospital and he had had tissue grafting to the burn areas. However, one of the grafts on his right leg had not healed. Now the leg was infected and needed immediate attention. We dressed the leg and called a hospital in Phonom Penh to make arrangements for the baby to be admitted for treatment. (picture #2)

What an honor to be His Hands of Love and Care as we saw 4,262 in 5 days! This is just a quick note to thank you so much Bruce for all you have done for me in participating in this outreach that touched so many lives..........Please let me know if you would like me to share more/and or with the Missions Committee.

Abundant Blessings, Cynthia
