Men of the Covenant Colony
Why “The Colony?" The idea of a colony comes from Philippians 3:20. It says that our “citizenship is in heaven” (NASB/NIV), that we are part of the colony of heaven. What is a colony? A colony is “a beachhead, an outpost, an island of one culture in the middle of another, a place where the values of home are reiterated and passed on to the young, a place where the distinctive language and life-style of the resident aliens are lovingly nurtured and reinforced…The church is a colony, an island of one culture in the middle of another.” Our home is in heaven yet we live on this great planet earth. God has called us, the Church, out of the world to be His. We are called to live together here in this community in Tucson. By His grace we represent Jesus Christ as King and live under His rule & reign over all areas of life.
Here at CFC we men are choosing to band together. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, 12 says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! … And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him – a threefold cord is not quickly broken”.
It is our desire that men will be built up (1 Corinthians 3:10-15) and set free (Luke 4:14-21; Hebrews 12:1-4.) Men are built up through worship, preaching & teaching of the Holy Scriptures, Bible study & reading, fellowship (authentic relationships), prayer, participation in the Sacraments (baptism & the Lord’s Supper), fasting & prayer, semi-silent retreats, and other means of grace.
Men are set free when they understand who they are in Christ (indicatives) and how they are to live (imperatives.) This means knowing and doing: it means turning from self to Jesus (repentance.) Places where this happens is in Sunday morning worship, pastoral counseling/soul care, small groups (whether they be recovery, fellowship, growth, or a specific focus), Bible studies, etc.
It is our desire that as men of the covenant, The Colony will be a place where you can band together with other brothers in Christ and grow spiritually, emotionally, physically, and mentally.
