Cookie Deployment:
Thanks to all the people who participated in the "Cookie Deployment"! We sent out 60 boxes! We had enough donations to cover all the shipping charges. Thanks for your dedication and service and thanks especially to all the wonderful children who helped all day! The military people who received the packages loved the homemade goodies and are so thankful that people remember them and love them. Thanks again.
Evening of Reunion
Website-Reunion Article
Our first annual Evening of Reunion, was a huge success! On Tuesday evening, August 25th, women of all ages, friends old and new, arrived in the Narthex to be greeted by our Bible Study leaders and college women. Inside, in the sanctuary, a “friendship” video and music was playing. The lights were dimmed and the beautifully decorated tables were laden with delicious “sweet and savory” treats for all to enjoy. Recipes of the especially prepared treats were made up into keepsakes tied with ribbon and placed in baskets on the tables.
After a sweet time of fellowship, greeting old friends and welcoming new ones, the lights were dimmed and the program began. Rousing praise songs to the Lord lifted our spirits together as we joined Lil and Terry Lee and their Praise Band. Paula Donley led us in prayer and introduced our pastor’s wives and past Women in the Church presidents. Cindy Justus created a delightful sensation with her unique presentation of door prizes – one went to our youngest guest, seventh grader Shelby Nicole, who is Mai and Dennis Spencer’s granddaughter.
After a welcome and preview of the upcoming year by President Donna Alcantara, Norma Roessler introduced our speaker, her long time friend and ours, Tamera Stombough. Tamera, as always, was sparkling with enthusiasm and her message centered on our evening’s theme of Reunion. Using her experiences as a parent and Bible teacher in our middle school, she shared her conviction of the importance of faithfully remaining in God’s word and of passing on our faith to our younger generations.
All too soon, we closed the evening with prayer and we all joined Lil and Terry in singing “His Grace is Enough.” Our prayers for a blessed time of fellowship were answered, and there is no doubt that our theme for the year, “Love One Another,” (John 15:12) was fulfilled.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening a success, and God willing, we will see you at our second annual Evening of Reunion next year!

Evening Classes
Esther & Ruth by Iain Duguid - 6:00 p.m. at CFC
Does God help those who help themselves? That may seen to be the message
of the Books of Esther and Ruth. Some think Ruth's attractiveness won over
Naomi and Boaz, or that Esther's bold faithfulness saved her people. But a
closer reading shows an embittered Naomi to have abandoned the Promised
Land and God's people, and Esther to have become thoroughly assimilated
to the culture and values of Persian society. In Esther, God works in invisible
ways to save his people. In Ruth, God's grace comes to Naomi unexpectedly, and
with it a depiction of redemption for her people. Join us and see how a gracious and
sovereign God works through flawed individuals, unable to help themselves, to rescue his people and prepare for the coming of Christ. Cost for book: $15.00.
Leader: Ellen Montijo

Together we will discover His grace is truly sufficient for even the
toughest of times. We will meet in the home of Sue Valentien, 9425 E. Star
Water. For directions and further information, call Veralyn at 790-5559.

Mercy Ministry
What is it?
Showing mercy affirms the image of God in all kinds of people and demonstrates the life-changing love of Christ in a concrete way. By ministering to those in need we can change our churches, communities, and culture by inviting Jesus to work through us to reach His people. Our Mercy Ministry brings meals to those in need (surgeries, death, births, illness, etc.), helps provide for home visits, drives people to appointments, and meets special needs and requests.
How can I help now?
Sign up to serve in this Ministry
When needs arise you may be called on to prepare a meal, drive an elderly to an appointment or sit with a child for a new mom. There are many ways we can each serve in this ministry. There really is something for everyone to do. You will be called on a rotation basis, so all will be called upon in a manner that will bless and enhance your life. You can contact Merlene or Allison (see below).
Who do I contact if I need help?
Our Mercy Ministry has always operated by word of mouth. At times, people are not getting help when they need it most. We are trying to make everyone aware of this ministry, so they can get the help they need or a friend needs. If you need help or know of someone in need, please contact:
Merlene Cook 297-5443 or Allison Gooding 797-2632
