Tucson, AZ, May 7, 2020 – Catalina Foothills Church is partnering with the Red Cross to host a blood drive next Wednesday (May 13) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their 2150 E. Orange Grove Road Tucson location. With no known end date to the coronavirus fight, the American Red Cross is encouraging healthy individuals to make appointments to donate blood or platelets to ensure blood remains readily available for patients who still rely on transfusions.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to partner with the American Red Cross in hosting a blood drive,” said John Stone, Lead Pastor of Catalina Foothills Church. “In these unprecedented times it is a privilege to provide people and space to meet the needs of our community.”
“Because more than 80% of blood donations made to the American Red Cross come from blood drive partners like Catalina Foothills Church, they play a vital role in helping the Red Cross ensure blood is available for patients at 23 hospitals across the Arizona Region and 2500 nationwide,” said Jason Benedict, Red Cross regional donor services executive. “We thank the church and all of our faith-based partners that have helped ensure we have a readily available supply of blood during this uncertain time.”
To take part in the blood drive, all participants must pre-schedule an appointment time. To register, follow this link or call 520.615.8500 Ext. 110 with any questions. Face coverings or masks are required while at the drive, in alignment with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention public guidance.
The Red Cross has implemented measures to ensure blood drives and donation centers follow the highest standards of safety and infection control, including
- Checking the temperature of staff and donors before entering a drive to make sure they are healthy.
- Spacing beds to follow social distancing practices between blood donors.
- Increasing enhanced disinfecting of surfaces and equipment.
- Staff wearing basic face masks.
According to RedCrossBlood.org, donating blood is a safe process and people should not hesitate to give or receive blood.”
